Forestry Projects
Protecting our forests plays a vital role in slowing climate change which is why Carbon Green feels it is important to keep you up to date with the latest news and information regarding forestry offset projects. Not only do trees help reduce the greenhouse effect by taking carbon dioxide from the air and storing it as carbon in their wood, they are also home to half of all species living on land. Even after the trees are cut down and used as lumber, the wood continues to store carbon and keep it out of the atmosphere.
Forestry projects are a great way to earn carbon credits as well as sequester carbon. Here are a few examples of offset projects:
- Reforestation Offsets: Carbon sequestered as the result of the establishment of trees on lands previously forested.

- Afforestation Offsets: Carbon sequestered as the result of the establishment of trees on lands previously used for non-forestry activities.
- Forest Management Offsets: Amount of carbon sequestered (additionally) as a result of increased growth rates resulting from prescribed forest management activities (thinning, prescribed fire, etc.)
- Forest Conservation Offsets: Lands which are managed for sustainability without the primary objective being forest products.
- Forest Products Offsets: Carbon placed in long-term storage when the harvested material is placed into product manufacturing channels (lumber, furniture, etc.)
